Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God
Hello again, BishBashers
Your Power Squad met again this evening and made some important decisions. You already know the theme, so now we'll share with you the Bible verse: Micah 6:6-8 (NRSV).
"With what shall I come before the Lord,
and bow myself before God on high?
Shall I come before him with burnt-offerings,
with calves a year old?
Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,
with tens of thousands of rivers of oil?
Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?"
He has told you, O mortal, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
We also decided on our cause for the day: Nothing but Nets. Remember how we filled the CHOW truck with a bunch of food for local food pantries in 2007? Well, in 2009 we're going to set a monetary goal to donate to Nothing but Nets, a charity that stops the spread of malaria by providing mosquito nets to those in Africa who need them (and either can't afford them or have none available to buy). Mosquitos spread malaria when they bite, so stopping mosquitos from biting stops the spread of the disease! Check out the Nothing but Nets Web site here: http://www.nothingbutnets.net/
Remember to keep Saturday July 25 open, and, as always, stay tuned to this blog for more BishBash updates!

Church is a Verb
In the English language many nouns have been "verbed," or turned into action words. For example, you can Google someone, Xerox a document, friend someone on Myspace, or Facebook someone. All of these words (Google, Xerox, friend, Facebook) were originally nouns that we've turned into verbs. The BishBash Power Sqaud wants to add church to that list.
Instead of church being just a place we go, let's make church a thing we do.
You help at a soup kitchen: you churched. You stood up for a schoolmate being bullied: you churched. You worshipped, you prayed, you performed any act of love: you churched. You can even church at church! Saying "I church" is like saying "I help," "I give," "I love."
The theme for BishBash 2009 is "Church is a Verb." Let us know what you think! Leave us a comment here on the blog or e-mail Sky Lake director Matt Williams at matt(at)skylakecenter.org (replace the "(at)" with an "@," of course). Please share with us any ideas you may have for the day as well.
I church. Do you?
Rethink church.

BishBash a smash!
As you know, BishBash 2007 was a success! Thank you to everyone who participated and helped! It was a great, sunny (despite the stormy weather forecast), and fun day.
Now's your chance to tell us what you think. What was your favorite joke in the icebreaker game? Do you think every church event should include spelling words with your behind? What was it like getting communion from the bishop? Share, share, share.
In the meantime, check out some photos and an article on the Wyoming Conference Web site:

Introducing the BishBash Logo

We are pleased to unveil the official logo for BishBash 2007. And yes, that is the word "one" in several different languages. It'll help us remember that while we may be unique individuals, we have an incredible opportunity to form ONE spirit, ONE body, ONE hope in Christ!
Thanks to Zaminy Hibbard for designing our logo pro bono!

One Uno Un Eine Een En Jeden Moja
As I said in an earlier post, the theme for BishBash 2007 is One, with Ephesians 4:4-6 (along with the ONE campaign and the song "One" by U2) as our inspiration. I gave you the verse from The Message, but I thought I'd share with you these verses from other versions of the Bible:
There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope when you were called— one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
(New International Version)
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
(King James Version)
There is one body and one Spirit. There is one hope in which you were called. There is one Lord and one faith and one baptism. There is one God. He is the Father of us all. He is over us all. He is the One working through us all. He is the One living in us all.
(New Life Version)
There is one body. There is one Spirit. You were appointed to one hope when you were chosen. There is one Lord. There is one faith and one baptism. There is one God and Father of all. He is over everything. He is through everything. He is in everything.
(New International Reader's Version)
Enjoy!
And as always, leave comments and suggestions!

The most important meal of the day
Here are a few pictures of your Bish Bash Power Squad from our previous summit. We cooked some breakfast, sang some karaoke, and talked about how cool Bish Bash 2007 is going to be. We talked about T-shirts and music and food and worship, and I'm excited already.
Our next meeting is on February 3. So once again let us know your ideas! We love hearing from you.

Suggestion Box.
Hey BishBash Blog readers!
The BishBash power squad will be meeting this Saturday to discuss how cool BishBash 2007 is going to be and to make some plans. Do you have ideas for this summer's BishBash? Then share them! How? I'll tell you!
You can:
(1) Call Sky Lake Program Director Matt Williams every five minutes, especially in the middle of the night, and tell him your awesome idea.
(2) Scream really loud and hope one of the power squad members hears you.
(3) Leave a comment for us here on the blog.
We'd love to hear from you, in one form or another.
In case you forgot (crazy, I know): BishBash is Saturday July 28, 2007, at Sky Lake in Windsor, NY. And oh yeah, it's FREE! Stay tuned to this blog for more details.

We get to carry each other.
Ephesians 4:4-6
From The Message
You were all called to travel on the same road and in the same direction, so stay together, both outwardly and inwardly. You have one Master, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who rules over all, works through all, and is present in all. Everything you are and think and do is permeated with Oneness.
I like it.

Let's Start at the Very Beginning
The BishBash lead team (or as we like to call ourselves, "The BishBash Power Squad") had its first official meeting last night. After feasting on a covered dish supper (complete with “fresh-baked” chocolate chip cookies made by yours truly) we got to work brainstorming ideas for BishBash 2007. We were especially appreciative of the input given to us by our youth consultant, Lauren R.
Here’s what we’ve come up with so far:
- Theme: “ONE”
- Theme Verse: Ephesians 4:4-6 (okay, okay. It’s more than ONE verse, but it’s really good, so it’s worth it…)
- Activities: we’re talking about non-stop fun that’ll help you meet other youth from the Wyoming Conference, gives you an opportunity to hang out with Bishop Hassinger, and keeps you moving all day. No matter what activities we end up doing, we know that they’ll help us to grow together as ONE body of Christ.

It’s Back!
So we have some really exciting news for the youth of the Wyoming Conference—we’re talking about the return of BishBash! Plan on joining Bishop Hassinger at Sky Lake for an awesome time on Saturday, July 28, 2007. Keep checking back here for details…
